Pan-Am Council Athletes Commission

Composition

The Athletes Commission (AC) will comprise a maximum of 8 and a minimum of 4 athletes, ensuring an appropriate skills mix and a balance in relation to gender, discipline, and geography. 

  • A minimum of one athlete from each discipline; 
  • A minimum of one female and one male.  Whenever possible, the AC shall be comprised of 50% female, and 50% male. 
  • A minimum of one athlete from each of North America, Central America, and South America
  • Up to 2 members who may be appointed at any time by the AC

Members of the first AC are to be elected at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier in Los Angeles Feb 25 2020.  Calls for nominations will be a minimum of two weeks prior to the event.  

  • Once athletes have been voted to the AC, an internal vote will be conducted for the Chair, who will be nominated to sit on the Pan American Council (PAC) Board with voting rights. 
  • Each member of the AC will be assigned to a PAC board member for guidance.
  • In the event of a member’s resignation or a member being unable to carry out their duties as a member of the AC that elected member will be replaced for the duration of the term. The AC Chair, in consultation with the AC, will choose a replacement from among other athletes not elected at the previous election.

Eligibility

To be eligible for election or appointment to the AC an athlete must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Be a resident of any Pan-American country
  • Not have been sanctioned for a doping offence in their sporting career;
  • Be a participant in an IFSC or PAC event within the last 8 years;
  • Make sure they are available to attend (by Skype) a minimum of three meetings per year.

To be eligible to vote an athlete must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be a resident of any Pan-American country
  • Not have been sanctioned for a doping offence in their sporting career;
  • Be actively competing in Pan-American Events 

TERM

The first AC will be for a term of two years.

Updates on the 2018 Pan American Championships

The IFSC Pan American Council Board is pleased to confirm the 2018 Pan American Championships hosted by Ecuador from the 21st to the 26th of November.

2017 12 12The venue for this new Championship edition will be the Alberto Spencer Stadium, Sports Climbing Complex "Guayaquil" in Guayaquil, Ecuador and will feature Boulder, Lead and Speed as individual disciplines plus a combined final for the 6 best overall athletes

For this event, the quotas for each National Federation will be:

  • Maximum of 6 athletes per NF, per gender in each discipline (Boulder, Sport, Speed)
  • Competitors must be 16 years of age by December 31st, 2018
  • 2 extra quota for host country
  • Extra quota that can  also participate, additional to the above, are all age-eligible athletes in any discipline, who have:
    • Current Adult World Champion status (from Innsbruck WCH 2018)
    • World Youth Champion status (from Moscow WYCH 2018)
    • Pan American Youth Champion status (from Montreal PAYCH 2017) 

All registrations must be made through the IFSC Online Registration System https://ifsc.egroupware.net/egw/login.php before November 14, 2018 at midnight

The event is organized by Ecuadorian Sport Climbing Federation (FEDAN) under the guidance of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and Pan American Council (PAC).

Chief Routesetters and Jury President Pan American Accreditations

The Pan American Council is beginning a process of accreditation for primary event Officials, with the review and approval process during the end of 2018, and accreditation valid beginning in 2019. To attain accreditation as Pan American Chief Routesetter, or Pan American Jury President, the following conditions must be met:

  • The National Federation must be a current member federation of the IFSC and be current with membership dues to the IFSC and Pan American Council.
  • The National Federation Official must have worked (meaning nominated and contracted, for the full duration of a competition) as a Routesetter or Judge:
    • A minimum of 2 IFSC World Cup, World Championship, and/or Pan American Championship competitions AND/OR a minimum of 10 National Championship or other IFSC International events that may be considered equivalent (such as Masters competitions, World Games, Youth Continental Cup/Championships).
    • A minimum of 4 Chief Routesetter or Jury President/Chief Judge experiences National level. 
    • A minimum of at least 2 different countries.

Nomination Process: National Federations submit nominations for Officials; they should not be submitted directly by the Officials, unless the Official is also the primary representative of the National Federation. Please submit a nomination via email for Officials to be considered, to PAC Secretary General, Chris Danielson (This email address is being protected from spambots. The following information must be included :

  • Letter on official National Federation letterhead, recommending the Official for consideration.
  • Official’s full name and contact information including address, email and phone.
  • Official’s Resume/CV including at least 2 references.
  • National Federations should also provide documentation of their National Officials system (certification/education/levels), for PAC to review, if available.

Deadline to Submit Nominations: October 15, 2018

Review and Approval Process: After all nominations have been submitted, Secretary General of PAC and IFSC Chief Routesetter Chris Danielson will oversee a review of nominations, coordinating with National Federations and the IFSC Sport Department to review references and competition experiences. The PAC Executive Board will make final review of all nominations. Any Official confirmed as Pan American Chief Routesetter or Pan American Jury President will be informed of his/her approval and considered as appointed Officials for future Pan American competitions.

The review process is expected to be complete December 1, 2018, with publication of a Pan American Officials List planned for December 15, 2018
